Blog Tour Review: Mr Right Across the Street by Kathryn Freeman

Rating: 4 out of 5.

A cute romance about two people who are trying to figure out what they want in life.

Foreword

Thank you so much to Rachel at https://www.rachelsrandomresources.com/ and Kathryn Freeman for allowing me to be part of this experience and also providing me with a complimentary digital copy and blog tour media kit!

About the Author

A former pharmacist, I’m now a medical writer who also writes romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a sexy hero.

With a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), any romance is all in my head. Then again, his unstinting support of my career change proves love isn’t always about hearts and flowers – and heroes come in many disguises.

Premise

Mia Abbott’s move to Manchester was supposed to give her time and space from all the disastrous romantic choices she’s made in her past. But then the hot guy who lives opposite – the one who works out every day at exactly 10 a.m., not that Mia has noticed thank-you-very-much – starts leaving notes in his window…for her.

Bar owner Luke Doyle has his own issues to deal with but as he shows Mia the sites of her new city he also shows her what real romance looks like for the first time. And when he cooks up a signature cocktail in her honour, she realises that the man behind the bar is even more enticing than any of his creations. And once she’s had a taste she knows it will never be enough.

Review (No Spoilers)

Once again I find myself reading an author I’ve read before without realizing it *insert face palm emoji*. It was only when I got to the end of the book and saw the promo for other books by Kathryn Freeman that I realized I read her Up Close and Personal book last June for another one of Rachel’s amazing blog tours. If you’d like to read my review of that book, click here.

(On a completely random side note: The cover is outrageously cute but unfortunately the characters in the book look nothing like the characters on the cover. Mia is described as being blonde with colored highlights, and Luke is described as being super muscular with arms the size of melons. My best guess is that this is the result of limitations with the editing software used for the cover. Okay back to the review!)

Similar to Up Close and Personal, Mr Right Across the Street has a lot of feminist undertones that I can definitely get behind. The protagonist Mia Abbott has had her share of bad relationships and has moved to a new town in order to start her life anew. This time around she will focus on herself and protecting her privacy. Even if it means ignoring the attractive and charming bartender who lives across the street that has been trying desperately to get her attention.

The premise of sharing notes across windows (much like the Taylor Swift music video for You Belong With Me) is super freaking cute and I. Am. Here. For. It! On top of that, the two main characters, Mia and Luke, have excellent chemistry with their shared sense of humor and similar mindsets. At its heart, this book is about two adults who are only now coming to terms with who they are and what they want their lives to look like. And thankfully (since this is often too rare in books that I read) they have the endless support of friends and family to help them along the way.

Would a relationship with Luke conflict with Mia’s ideas of self-sufficiency? And since Luke has spent the past 16-or-so years only engaging in casual sex relationships, are they doomed before they even begin? I guess you’ll have to read it to find out!
