About the Author

Rachael Stewart adores conjuring up stories for the readers of Harlequin Mills & Boon and Deep Desires Press, with tales varying from the heartwarmingly romantic to the wildly erotic.

She’s been writing since she could put pen to paper as the stacks of scrawled on A4 sheets in her loft will attest to, and the lovingly bound short stories that her father would run off at work and proudly share out with his colleagues. Thinking it was a pipe dream to be published one day, she pursued a sensible career in business but she was really play-acting, achieving the appropriate degree and spending many years in the corporate world where she never truly belonged. Always happiest when she was sat at her laptop in the quiet hours tapping out a story or two. And so here she is, a published author, her full-time pleasure, a dream come true.

A Welsh lass at heart, she now lives in Yorkshire with her husband and three children, and if she’s not glued to her laptop, she’s wrapped up in them or enjoying the great outdoors seeking out inspiration.

A little secret sexy fun
Under the Tuscan sun!

It’s her best mate’s wedding week – and Faye Davenport is celebrating with a skinny dip under the Tuscan moon. Except she’s not alone. The sexy Italian dish is Rafael Perez – her mate’s off-limits older brother. But now it’s too late. This illicit, irresistible fire is already out of control…

Review (No Spoilers)

This was by far one of the steamiest romance I’ve read to date. Most of the time the romance novels I read are around 350 pages with 0-3 sexy scenes. This book was around 250 pages and had at least 4! (I’m not complaining though.)

Our Little Secret follows the deep forbidden attraction between Faye Davenport and Rafael Perez (Faye’s best friend’s brother). While I’ve seen this trope used in several movies (looking at you Kissing Booth), I don’t think I’ve ever actually read a “best friend’s brother” romance. I have to say that I think this was done very well!

Most of the forbidden romances between best friend’s brothers/brother’s best friend rely on the weirdly possessive attitude of “she’s mine so you can’t have her” (again, looking at you Kissing Booth). Our Little Secret, on the other hand, subverted this very tastefully. Faye’s best friend, Dani, knows her brother isn’t ready to commit and that if Faye falls for him, she’ll end up heart broken. So rather than a “you can’t take her from me!” it was more of a “I know you can’t give her what she needs, so please don’t lead her on”, which I really appreciated.

Another thing that I think Rachael Stewart handled really well was removing the toxicity from the “alpha-male” character. I’ve seen and read several of these types of relationships where the guy is actually just blatantly abusive/toxic. Rafael definitely has alpha-male qualities, but he never hurts or belittles Faye (or his sister Dani) in any way. In fact he’s actually very soft and loving underneath his hard exterior. Like…chocolate covered ice cream? An egg? A baguette? I don’t know. You get the gist.

I think my only real complaint about this was that it was a bit too insta-lovey for me. The majority of the book takes place over the span of one week so I would have preferred for there to have been more time for these two to develop romantic feelings for each other. Nevertheless, Our Little Secret is definitely a book that I could see myself rereading several times in the future.
